Sundara Kandam - A commentary Chapters 55-62

Chapter 55
Aanjaneyar worries about Sita Amma whether she got burnt by the fire
Aanjaneyar proudly reviews the comprehensive result of his burning Lanka in full. He then comes to the seashore to put off the fire in his tail, with water. Suddenly he got stuck with the worry “ arrey, how foolishly I have acted without thinking about Sita Amma also being present iside and whether she is also burnt, in which case, whatever purpose I was sent here for is fully destroyed by me. I have acted like a normal and average monkey which will act on instincts and never think of consequences of its action. Anger is very bad and if it acts as the guiding force for action, all our actions are wrongly and haphazadedly happening and the mind which should be at peace will be in pieces thereby the result will take us in the totally detrimental way. How can I face Sugreeva and Rama with such news. It is an act of mine, nobody will forgive me. It is better to end my life here itself so that my people will be under the impression I will come sometime definitely with success. “ With such thoughts overcoming him, he prepares to end his life. Just as Sita Amma had all good omens appearing for her comfort and good things coming, when she was about to end her life, Aanjaneya also could see lot of good omens, giving a feeling of rejuvenation and mindgetting backto calmness and he thought” How for a chaste lady like Sita Amma, Fire can even touch, when due to her prayer to Agni Devan to give safety to me , and It happened accordingly. “with these thoughts he started offfrom the seashore. Atthat time few Chaaranas and Gandharvas who are divine people travelling in the skywere discussing aloud” What a miracle. In this intense fire I Lanka, Sita is not affected by fire. It is great” Listening to this Aanjaneyar became relieved and thanked and prayed to Rama and Sita, who were instrumental for these extra rdinary events and effects. Aanjaneyar decides to go to Sita Amma first and then proceed for Kishkindhaa. Now he is full of renewed and rejuvenated enthusiasm.
Lesson – 55 :
When anger takes the lead for all the action plan and actions, topsy-turvy results alone will happen resulting in depression in the mind which is pulled in all directions simultaneously. It will lead to despair and depression. This is the lesson, Aajaneyar imparts in us with practical demonstration out of his experience. Let us take this seriously in our life for practice and be with peaceful mind ever.
Thus the fifty- fifth chapter of Sundarakandam is completed.

Chapter 56
Aanjaneyar gets permission from Sita Amma to start for the return journey
Aanjaneyar goes to Sita Amma and bows down before her. Sita Amma says “ O,Aanjaneya, what you have done, only you can do it in this world. There looks to be no one else who can do it. All the people in Lanka knows about you now. I desire you should go and bring Rama here so that he could save me from this situation and take me with him. Do it at the earliest.” Aanjaneyar replies “ O,Mother, I will do as you say so that you will see the end of the ocean of agony with Rama coming and kill Ravana and take you with him to Ayodhyaa. “ He did namaskarams again and again with a sense of relief and satisfaction and fervor to do further things.
He goes to the top of the mountain Adhrushtam, made his body very big in size. With applying thrust through his feet, took off to air and started flying. While crossing the ocean he makes sound so loudly that it reverberates in all directions. All his colleagues sitting on the norther sea shore, could listen to the sound and immediately felt happy and it is a sure indication of Aanjaneyar completing his mission successfully. They all climed otnto the top of all trees to have glimpse of approaching Aanjane lands to the ground amonst them. He did his namaskarams to Angathan, Jaambhavaan and other elders and told He has located and seen Sita Amma. That news was sweetest to hear . The Aanjaneyar started the total details of his journey.

Lesson -56 :
Though the achievement is monumental, it further gets to greater heights through the humility and humble approach , the performer shows in his behavior. This is the most relevant and great message conveyed to us by our Aanjaneyar through his natural behavior. This is for all of us to follow as his faithful disciples.
My Note :
Normally when we embark on a trip, let us say, to Tiruppathi, the onward journey looks to be longer in duration compared to the return journey, since I feel that while going, we have more anxiety and expectations and while returning we feel the fullness and satisfaction. Sage Vaalmeeki provides 210 slokas to describe Anjaneyar’s onward journey and finishes the detailing of the return journey in 10 slokas. Similarly, detailing the particulars of the journey to our colleagues, we normally restrict to brief data and reserve the full description to be told to the ultimate boss and not to intermediaries in order to keep the full credit to ourselves for the achievement. You people may be exceptions but I might have been one like that.
Thus the fifty- sixth chapter of Sundarakandam is completed.

Chapter 57,58 and 59
Jaambavan advises further course of action after Aanjaneyar gives details of his journey
Aanjaneyar’s details were eagerly listened by all Vaanaraas and after the thing is completed, He requests all the elders and Aangadhan “ it is for them to decide the further course of action. I have detailed the difficulties and anguish being experienced by Sita Amma which should be mitigated at the earliest.”
Young Prince Angadhan says, let us not go to Rama first. We all will go to Lanka, bring Sita back and join her with Rama” that impulsive statement was replied by Elderly and experienced Jambavaan” O Prince Angadhan, Your suggestion looks great. But still weall will go to Rama, detail him and his final suggestion and instruction should alone be followed. For this suggestion everyone l agreed.
Lesson – 57,58 and 59 :
After seeing the discipline and respect to elders were shown by Aanjaneyar, This type of humility is what we all should follow. This is the lesson from Aanjaneyar to all of us.

Thus the fifty-seventhth, fifty eighth and fifty nineth chapters of Sundarakandam are completed.

 Chapter 60, 61and 62
All vaanaraas enter the ‘Madhu’ garden and enjoy themselves
Going back to meet Sugreevan, all the vaanaraas pass through Madhuvanam, the well maintained garden of Sugreevan who has put his uncle Dhadhimukan to look after it and protect it from any transgressors. Prince Angadhan gave permission to vaanaraas to enter the garden and enjoy the honey and all other other infatuatable items in the garden. They all pushed aside and fought with Dhadhimukan and his assistants and injured them. With those bruises, and hurt feelings Dhadhimukan ran to Sugreevan and fell at his feet crying and telling Sugreevan what has happened.
In the garden fully helping themselves they get intoxicated and the effect is few are running here and there ad few roll on the ground, few jump fromone tree to another few shout at a high pitch, few are heavily weeping ,few are laughing to their heart all these varieties of their actions clearly indicate all are out of their own control.
Dhadhimukan was confident Sugrrevan will take a very serious view of the worst behavior of all the vaanaraas and inflict heavy punishment on them, befitting their brutal on him .
Lesson – 60,61 and 62 :
Overcelebration for a success will take you out of senses and lead you to negative impacts and results, however good and well behaved you are in normal circumstances. Also getting headweight and loosing the right perception about the achieved success ,we should not be carried away. Also do not measure the height you have achieved, but count the number of steps you climbed and the efforts for it , these are the various aspects Aanjaneyar imparts lesson for all of us and by his blessings, we all will achieve success in our efforts to realize and take the success into our blood.
Thus the Sixtieth, sixty-first and sixty-second chapters of
Sundarakandam are completed.
