Sundara Kandam - A commentary. Chapters 41-47
Chapter 41
Aanjaneyar starts destroying the Ashoka vanam
Aanjaneyar thinks “ The purpose of Sugreevan sending me here as Rama Dhoothan to search for the whereabouts of Sita Amma is accomplished. But before I start to go back, it is wise to getsome details about Raavanan’s army, about Ravanan’s pattern of behaviour and also the relevant places in Lanka, since I raomed around in Lanka during the night only and have not identified yet. To do this, I must draw the attention of Raavanan towards my presence so that he will send his army people and on destroying them ,I will get an opportunity to meet Raavanan and converse with him. Loaded with such useful and relevant information I can get back to Rama and share with him. To achieve that, I must destroy the outer portion of Ashoka vanam which is very dear to Raavanan. The guards will rush to Raavanan to inform him about this and he will send his army to protect the forest from me.”

He starts felling the gigantic trees and that makes all th birds and
animals run around and make all kind of shrieks and sounds loudly
piercing through the calmness of the forest.
Lesson – 41 :
If a person is sent as a messenger for a specific probing session, he may come out successful in his errand but the real tactical success is only if if he grasps all the ground realities and also the strength and weeknesses of the people he encounters . That will be most useful to have further planning. This , Aanjaneyar has shown to us in this chapter, thereby we could see and realise his Sharp intelligence(Bhuddhi), Bhalam, Dhairyam, and Nirbhayathwam qualities as standing prominent to bless us also ever since we leave him never.
Thus the forty-first chapter of Sundarakandam is completed

Chapter 42 and 43
Aanjaneyar encounters Kinkaraas
As Aanjaneyr destroys the forest , the heavy sound woke up all the raakshasees who question Sita Amma “ Who is that ferocious monkey who was talking to you ?. Sita Amma told them she does not know about the monkey more than what they have seen. “ I am also bewildered “. Raakshasees ran to Raavana and informed him about the monkey destroying the forest. He sends his fine and successful army people , the Kinkaras who were bringing with them all sorts of weapons with the full intention of finishing the monkey once and for all. Aanjaneyar grew in size and told them who he is and what purpose for which he has come to Lanka. Then he pulled the massive iron plate standing nearby and threw at them and killing them instantly. As Aanjaneyar was waiting for the next batch of army people, for his own usage, he pulled off one strong pillar of those supporting ones at the building, which collapsed and fell on those guarding the building. The guards also ran to Raavanan and informed him about the situation.
Lesson: 42 ans 43 :
These two chapters show in exquisite way the inherent attributes of Aanjaneyar, namely Buddhi, Bhalam, Dhairyam, Nirbhayathwam and facing the enemy with any weapon he could lay hands on. His actions and reactions to situations are big lessons to us and we pray for hs blessings on these aspects in our life.
Thus the forty-second and forty-third chapters of Sundarakandam are completed.
Chapters 44,45 and 46
Aanjaneyar’s next victims : Jambumaali, Seven Ministers’ sons and the Five Chiefs of Raavana’s army.
Jambumaali, son of Minister Prahasthan was sent by Raavana . He has teeth projecting out and broad and wide eyes came on his chariot driven by donkeys. He showered arrows incessantly on Aanjaneyar’s head, arms, chest and the shoulders. With blood gushing out, Aanjaneyar a solid rock at Jambumaali and killed him.he fell with the chariot broken to pieces and the donkeys died.

Raavanan without showing his mental anguish, called his five army Chiefs and ordered them” look, the monkey is not an ordinary one. It may be Indhran or any other Deva, come in a disguised form. Bring the monkey to me alive”. They all left with large army and elephants and horses to confront the monkey. Aanjaneyar presempted and with his vast size jumped on them and trampled and also with a big tree beat them hard and they could not survive.
Then afterthese encounters, he sat at the entrance of the forest,in a calm way taking rest.
Lesson – 44,45,46 :
Single handedly Aanjaneyar confronted them successfully with courage and sagacity and intricate thinking as to the use of objects to be used as weapons of attack. This assures us to face and confront situations with confidence, courage and commitment with whatever way best suited to situations and come out successfully with the guidance of our Aanjaneyar
Thus the forty-fourth, forty-fifth and forty-sixth chapters of Sundarakandam are completed.

Chapter 47
Aanjaneyar’s next victim was Akshakumaara, Raavanan’s son
Hearing that an ordinary monkey could kill all the army and people, well known valourous chieftains, Raavanan’s young son Akshakumaaran got infuriated with anger and requested Raavanan “ Father, Please allow me to go to overcome the monkey which has created havoc to the army you have sent so far. I will bring him here.” Seeing his confidence, Raavanan asked him to go with a huge contingent of all the various army divisions and all the armouries and in a big and decorated chariot along with his best wishes to achieve success. Akshakumaaran reached the place Aanjaneyar was and found a cool and relaxed monkey sitting there with no reaction to the sight of a huge army approaching to attack.

Akshakumaaran reached the place Aanjaneyar was and found a cool and relaxed monkey sitting there with no reaction to the sight of a huge army approaching to attack.
With his archery capability, Akshakumaaran sent sharp arrows like a
heavy and continuoud rain on Anjaneyarr. Aanjaneyar was really
appreciating the skills of the young boy but he felt since the
confronting person is an enemy, he should treat him accordingly. He was
catching the fast approaching arrows by hand though few arrows hurt
him and blood was coming out.
Then Aanjaneyar decides and crushes the chariot and all the horses. He caught hold of both the hands of Akshakumar together and started whirling him around and smashed him on the ground and thereby all the parts of Akshakumaaran crushed and eventually the son of Raavanan died.
Now, once again Aanjaneyar went to the entrance and as before sat calmly awaiting the arrival of the next victim .
Lesson -47:
Deciding the way of countering the situation according to the magnitude and enormity of it is the lesson Aanjaneyar adopted and showed to us through this chapter.
Thus the forty-seventh chapter of Sundarakandam is completed.
