Sundara Kandam Chapters 21-25. A commentary by Venkataraman Rajagopalan

Chapter 21
  Sita Amma advises Raavaana
On listening to Raavanan’s words creared distress and fear in Sita Amma’s mind, still without losing her calmness, She pulled and plucked one grass from the ground and put it in between her and Raavana, indicating that she treats him as one grass bit only and also as a screen between her and Raavanan  as is customery when it comes to talking to persons other than husband. “You have brought  and married so many ladies to your harem by force and instilling fear in them. Love and show affection to your wife and to these ladies. My husband Rama is blessed by all Gods and is known for his valour. Once he knows you brought me here by deceipt and force, he will come , defeat and kill you and take me back with him victoriously.
His righteousness and our strict adherence to our dharma will take us through  victory.  But for you, you will face definite death, destruction of your country and hard time to your people for no fault of them. Don’t you have people orministrers to advise you the danger and worst repercussions arising out of this action of yours ?
My devotion and mental concentration on my husband will act as fire capable of burning you. I will not do it without permission from my husband. So Rama will definitely come and defeat you, But he is full of passion and forgiveness. If you hand me over back to him he will forgive you, ashis natural habit. You can thenon lead a life of righteousness forever”
Lesson - 21: In all circumstances or situations,we must have full faith in our path of righteousness, which will make us face situations fearlessly, and even adivse the wrongdoers about their aberrations. This is the lesson we are provided with. When Aanjaneyar was listening to Sita Amma , tears were rolling out of his eyes and wished  Rama should come immediately and save her from such a dire situation and take her immediately.
Let us be with Aanjaneyar’s guidance and blessings forever.
Thus the twenty first chapter of Sundarakandam is completed
Chapter 22
Angry Raavanan sets to Sita Amma time limit
Sita Amma’s advice took Raavanan to his peak in anger. Though he explained his greatness and valour, imcomparable with anyone in the world, she equaled him to the small bit of grass she put in front of her. He was not able to bear it and hence shouted at her “ O Sitaa, I am convinced  your beauty is ideally matching to my valour and that is the reason I talked to you with restraint and calmness. If any other lady would have  talked to me like what you spoke, I would have killed  and eaten her. Now, I am giving you two month’s time to chang your mind and accept me fully. Or you will become my food. “ Then he instructed all the Raakshasees  guarding Sita  Amma that they should by any means convince her to accept him . In the meantime one of his wives called Dhaanyamalinee ,who accompanied him there, was telling”O, Rajan, I am in full love with you, Please enjoy me fully in every fashion of your passion, why do you go after the normal human lady, Sita is.” She hugged him and tookhim away.
Lesson- 22:
Any person who is lost in love and lust will never change his path to sanity. He will continue to tread in his own path and meet his fate and end. This is the lesson weget from Aanjaneyar ashe was the witness to all these happenings.
Thus the twenty second chapter of Sundarakandam is completed

Chapter 23
Raakshasees advise Sita Amma
Following the instructions and the order of Raavanan, the guarding Raakshasees assembled around Sita Amma and one after another started detailing to Sita Amma, the great qualities and capabilities of their master, all the while insisting that she should heed to their advice of agreeing to Raavanan’s desires. They covered Raavanan’s birth status, education and his scholarly abilities, his valor, wealth etc. They told her “he is the most suited to you and he would remove his wife Mandodharee from the position of Patta Mahishee and install you there, once you get married to him. You can enjoy all the comforts and commanding position. Even Nature listens and acts as per his commands. So if you follow our advice, you will lead a happy and enjoyable life and if you say No,  we all will kill you and eat you now itself “.Thus Sita Amma was terrorised by them.
Lesson – 23 :
When most difficult and trying situation confronts us, tendency for the mind will be to lose peace and go to pieces, due to depression to unbearable level. At that time, hold your mind strongly I the way things will get passed is the lesson we learn from this chapter through our Aanjaneyar.

Raakshasees continue to harass Sita Amma
Raakshasees once again started to harass Sita Amma with forcefully advising her.
“Turn your full attention towards Raavanan, and henceforth, your Raaman will never come to rescue you. Afterall he is an ordinary mortal. He is no comparison to the great and mighty Raavanan”. With eyes filled with tears, Sita Amma told them “ Raama is my husband and I worship him mentally ever. He is a grea soul. He will come here definitely and take me back with him. “. With axes and spears in their hands and venom in their words, they all came near and  around her started discussing amongst them” I like Sita’s eyes wimilar to that of deer . I like her trembling breasts and I love eating them. Right side of her body ,called Yaakruth for me and I prefer eating  her liver fully. I will take  her left side flesh of her chest ,called Pileekam and also  the one above that ,called urpeedam is for me.  I like to taste her heart portion. Now we will rotate her head fully and kill her and we will inform Raavanan that she died out of heavy distress. Then we will all eat our preferred parts of her. Ok, now let us bring  all the necessary side dishes to have our full meal.”
Sita Amma started crying leaving off the courage she has been upholding. All these happenings were witnessed by Aanjaneyar from the tree top and he could sense the extreme mental anguish she was experiencing. He prayed to Rama to guide himto find the suitable time to intervene for his action to be productive and meaningful.
Lesson – 24 :
The impending and fast approaching danger, unsurmountable situation and how to come out of it : for all these, Aanjaneyar found solution of approach from Rama and the same way, Aanjaneyar will be with us to advise and guide us.

Chapter 25
Sita Amma’s grief
Sita Amma experienced immeasurable grief and started to talk to Raakshasees” I am a normal mortal being. I cannot and will not become Ravanan’s wife anytime, So please kill me as you all planned and eat my flesh s you like.”
Tears were rolling down her cheeks continuously as she was feeling When and how she would meet Rama. Herloud cries of Hey Rama,Hey Lakshmana and all others along with fond hope of they come and rescue her, is the thought keeping her alive in spite of all the most torturous situations she has been facing.Though she wants to end her life, timing of death is based on the past birth’s good and bad deeds I have done. Also with all the people are there for protecting me, I am going to die as an orphan. This amount of punishing inflictment for me must be due to plenty of deeds I have done to others in my past lives.
Suddenly a thought occurred to her that her body and her soul belonged not to her but owned by Rama. In that case, how can plan plan to end her life.
Lesson - 25:
Goddess Mahalakshmi has taken the avatar of Sita Amma and with that, when Sita Amma feels so much on the effect of her past births’ good or bad deeds while facing the toughest situations, our day to day difficulties are very small though for us they are onerous and unsurmountable as they stare at us. Think of being identified with Aanjaneyar who can tke you off from all the sufferings and lead you to the prosperity and permanent happiness.
Thus the twenty fifth chapter of Sundarakandam is completed
