Aryan Invasion Theory

A speech by Sri Sri Ravishankar - Founder Art Of Living. Q:Western scholars talk about Aryan invasion of India. Please comment on this theory. Guruji’s answer : See the western scholars who wrote Indian history had no knowledge of Sanskrit in which all the records are written. They had no knowledge of pali or Sanskrit. They just wrote with some assumptions, for them everything began 6000 years ago. So they downgraded almost everything every age. This was 150 years ago. Historians had a different concept about the universe. They thought world commenced 6000 years ago. They could not digest anything beyond that or 10000 or 50000 years ago that people had a civilization. So they totally discard what is thousands of years before as fictitious. When Indian scriptures talked about planet, origin and time of present day, the sun is 19 billions years, they laughed. Adding so many zeros had no meaning. So western scholar thought man was born in one place and went throughout the world. Which nee...

About Ganesh Chathurthi

Gratitude

A drop of water on a hot plate takes little time to disappear. It makes some noise and it evaporates.Gratitude in our life seems to disappear even faster. We seem to forget how much we have grown, how much we have received. The mind seeks more and more. And in every wanting of more and more, it forgets the past very easily. So gratitude rises in everybody, but disappears very soon. Today we cannot say that no one is grateful. Everyone is grateful, but for the moment and then it is finished. Grace is that gratitude which can remain all the time. If gratitude remains around the year like the evergreen, you call it grace. It is grace. It is like the snow in the Himalayas that stays throughout the year. It doesn’t just fall and disappear. Whatever falls on the highest peak stays. When there is gratitude, complaints disappear. When complaints arise, gratitude disappears, gratefulness disappears. When there is a complaint in the mind, there is discontent, frustration, dejections, depression. A...

Sri Sri Lecture at Wharton School

Gurudev spoke at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Guruji began His talk with a little deep breathing and meditation. But before getting the group to close their eyes, Guruji said, "I was told this was a perfect time to come here because of the economic crisis here." He noted that students may be worried about the job market and finding work when they graduate. After getting more than 300 people to breathe quietly for a few minutes, Guruji offered suggestions for relieving stress after sitting for hours at a computer. Then He asked if his audience had questions. Question: What is the purpose of life? Guruji : That is the million-dollar question, but one for you have to search within yourself to find the answer. Anyone who knows that will not tell you, and if anyone tries to tell you that he knows, he really doesn't know. Another student noted that the teachings are nonreligious, and asked what religion He practices. Guruji: I would say that spirituality is ...

A commentary on Ashtavakra Gita

You are what you are only between two storms. So how settled you are is determined by how less frequently storms arise in your life. When the Welcome and embrace the perfect storm. storms arise, the breath becomes heavier, the body becomes unbearable and you are not at all aware of your mind. You are thrown off balance. How to free yourself from the grip of storms? This is the only basic problem in this universe. The first thing is to become aware of it and stop regretting it. Like waves come and go, storms in your life too will subside. No one storm can be there for ever. One storm comes and subsides, another comes and subsides and it goes on. As the storm subsides, you experience that inner cool, soft, delicate aspect of yourself. In that space of calm, all the anxiety, fear, feverishness lose their grip on you and you become yourself again. Love dawns. When you stop resisting the storms of life and start accepting them with open arms, they will subside on their own. That is the purp...
